HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

In case you don't get around to viewing a fireworks show in your area, enjoy the next best thing:

Maybe hold a sparkler while viewing.

Happy Birthday to today's Iconic recipient,
John Waite!

As a young punk kid, I bought all The Babys records that I could...

As I am writing this post in advance and assume many of you will be out grilling in the backyard or drinking in the gutter, I'm cutting our time short.

Just remember:

Each of us floats in a stream of life.
That stream has many sources feeding into it and many channels into which it will flow.
One person’s stream may flow into the stream of another, and vice versa; and the next moment each stream will move in a different direction.
Water flows with an endless dynamic energy, and so does life.

I recently came across this video.
I must warn you, it's pretty emotional.
I started watching it thinking, "yeah...same ol' shmaltz" BUT
this thing took my breath away and made me say (OUT LOUD) "HOLY S**T!"
Just a warning.....

THURSDAY

Let's begin this Thursday with a look at Yeondoo Jung's work....

In his series, Wonderland, he takes children's drawings and brings them to life in his photography.

Using Jung's idea, I decided to give it a try myself.

Here's the drawing:

And here's the picture that I took:

WOW! That turned out pretty good if I do say so myself!
Maybe I could open my own studio and emulate Mr. Jung......

HOLD IT!

We're moving. Pack up.

Denmark has been named the happiest country.
The U.S. was rated 16!
Let's simplify for those of you slower readers:

CONVERSELY:

Now I'm trying to stay apolitical but perhaps our ranking will improve next year.....
Time will tell.

Today's Iconic birthday is
Tom Stoppard!

If you don't recognize him perhaps you are familiar with one of his more popular writings...

Empire Of The Sun. Starring a young Christian Bale.

I said YOUNG not skinny!!

Let's switch gears quickly to get that image out of our heads.....

Shakespeare quote of the day:

"The course of true love never did run smooth"
--A Midsummer Night's Dream

Poor Lysander and Hermia. But c'mon. What do you expect when your dad names you "Hermia"?

I don't know about you, but when I hear the name Hermia, I picture something like this:

Amy Winehouse?

Let's move on. Please.

We'll close out with this final quote:

"The hours I spend with you I look upon as sort of a perfumed garden, a dim twilight, and a fountain singing to it - you and you alone make me feel that I am alive - Other men, it is said, have seen angels, but I have seen thee and thou art enough."
--George Moore

Let's try and visualize

Store that in your heart for later use. It'll come in handy.

I promise.

HUMP DAY ALREADY?

Time really flies when you waste your time reading (or writing) an inane blog.

Let's present today's Iconic birthday.
Dave Thomas

That's right! The founder of Wendys, the fast food chain named after his daughter.
Dave Thomas trivia: Dave was adopted and had many charities aimed at helping adopted kids.
Sounds like a decent guy.

I always preferred the commercials with him as opposed to today's.

And I may be wrong, but I think he was nominated for an actors award for his performances.

Yeah that's the award! But I think it actually went to Ronald McDonald. The bastard.

I was going to go into some tangent about some topic but let's just take a mid-week breather and relax a little.

Now THAT should take the blood pressure down a few notches.

To continue on, let's have Sir Elton serenade us....

Until you've seen this trash can dream come true
You stand at the edge while people run you through
And I thank the Lord there's people out there like you
I thank the Lord there's people out there like you

And I thank the Lord for the people I have found

I thank the Lord for the people I have found

I'm gonna quit before today's post becomes awash with sentimentality and bathos.

And leave you with:

We'll get some much needed rest and regroup tomorrow.

CONGRATULATIONS!

You made it to Tuesday!
Let's celebrate this joyous occasion with an Emu.

Nothing says I made it past Monday like a large flightless bird!

Well, I guess Lady Bird counts as flightless.....?

Speaking of animals...

Top 5 signs your pet is sick:

5. Your Visa has been charged $50 for beef and liver flavored cough syrup

4. The chicken is missing from all your cans of chicken noodle soup

3. There are teeth marks on your Tylenol

2. Their fur is coated with Vicks VapoRub

and the #1 sign your pet is sick:
1. You come home to animal print tissues of snot and there are paw prints all over your tv which is tuned to Animal Planet

I'm not sure, but that kind of looks like a giant rat or hamster or groundhog....

Moving on to today's Iconic birthday:
Liv Tyler!

Granted maybe not her most famous role but one of my favorite movies.
Liv Tyler trivia: Growing up she always thought that Todd Rundgren was her father until later in life she realized it was Steven Tyler.

That provides a pretty basic equation:

I wonder if they go to the same salon for their highlights?

HEY!
Where did that come from??
Oh well. No use crying over spilt milk.
What's done is done.

The connection you ask? About 1:26 into the video.
And if you don't know what movie this excellent Lego recreation is from, well you just haven't been paying attention, have you? Hmmm?

Maybe it's not too late to add something of value to today's post.

This has been a real eye opener, to actually see first hand how different peoples are treated in different ways.
- Peter

Not sure if that's exactly what I had in mind.

Kind of overly maudlin but I guess it'll do.

Let's let the brothers Gibb close out today's session with many unanswered questions.

How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can a loser ever win?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
How can you mend this broken man?

Please help me mend this broken heart

And let me live again.
